Clinical Effect of Tripotasium-Dicitrato-Bismuthate on Peptic Ulcer







Abstract
As to the treatment of peptic ulcer, the object of this study is to assess the clinical effectiveness of the colloidal bismuth preparation, tripotassium dicitrato bismuthate. They were diagnosed to have peptic ulcer by gastrofiberscopy at the Chungnam National University Hospital, from March, 1990 to July, 1990.
Patients were examined to insure clinical effectiveness with a total of 20 cases of peptic ulcer (gastric ulcer 10 cases, duodenal 8 cases, combined 2 cases). Tripotassium Dicitrato Bismuthate was given in a dosage of 240mg orally twice a day for 4 weeks.
The results were as follows.
1. The male to female sex ratio of the subjects was about 3 : 1 and the most prevalent age group was the fifth decade of the life in peptic ulcer group.
2. The complete healing rate of the gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers and combined ulcers were 80.0%, 87.5% and 100% after 4 weeks Treatment. The overall healing rate of peptic ulcer was achieved in 85.0% at 4 weeks.
3. As for the subjective symptoms, epigastric pain, belching, indigestion, nausea, feeling of distension, anorexia, vomiting, melena and hematemesis were experienced in 16 cases(80.0%), 4 cases(20.0%), 8 cases(40.0%), 10 cases(50.0%), 6 cases(30.0%), 11 cases(55.0%), 3 cases (100%), 1 cases(100%) and I cases(100%) respectively.
4. There were not developed any symptoms and signs suggesting side effect of drug. Finally, the conclusion of the above-stated is that Tripotassium Dicitrato Bismuthate was considered an effective and safe drug in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease.
